Hikoi Pounamu (The Greenstone Walk)

How deep and intrepid we go is up to you. This is your opportunity to explore like a local.

Explore a Westcoast river by retracing the history of pounamu (jade/greenstone) to its source.

Your journey builds on the Hikoi Arahura walk and takes you deeper into the river and into the stories and history of our sacred pounamu. We will bring to life the legends hidden within our rugged Westcoast landscape.

We will also cater to your appetite for adventure with our uniquely Westcoast māori cuisine. After lunch your pounamu adventure will conclude at the home of a  carver. Here can you can experience how we transform the raw form into traditional and contemporary pieces.
